THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - November 2009
AGM
Please remember to keep Sunday 15 November 2009 free at 5pm for the AGM to be held at the club. The Board has a number of changes to the constitution which are rather legalistic but, with changes in the NSW Gaming Act and a few holes in our current constitution, do require the approval of the members before being implemented.
ELECTIONS
Elections for the board close at 5pm on Saturday14 November and you should all have your annual report, details of the changes to the constitutions together with ballot papers. This year we are pleased to have a number of members standing for positions on the Board. I have been asked many times why we need to vote for 4 directors plus president. The General Manager reported this in our last newsletter and I repeat his message to clear any misunderstanding:
"If John McFadden is elected as President, Ken Hey remains on the Board as a director as he still has 2 years remaining of his elected term. Under this scenario only three (3) general director positions will be elected. If Ken Hey is elected as President then the top four (4) candidates standing in general director positions will be accepted."
CLUBHOUSE
The Board is proceeding with upgrading the clubhouse as advised in last month's newsletter and you should have a look at the basic drawing on the notice board of the changes to be made.
The kitchen side will of the building will be the first to be worked on and this means that before anything substantial happens we will need to relocate the 9th hole. The Board and Management are currently working on the best and most cost effective relocation. We will inform you as soon as a decision is reached which will be by the AGM.
PERFORMANCE
The club has performed well in excess of last year for the quarter ended September and the Board wishes to acknowledge the tremendous effort by staff and management in keeping service flowing in all areas. The pressure will only increase as we come into the Christmas/New Year period but we are confident that we have an excellent team in all areas to handle the improving service to members and visitors.

A number of teams entered Wyong Open Day on 22nd October. The day was much enjoyed by all with teams coming 3rd and 4th in the am field. NTP winners and long coming 3rd and 4th in the am field. NTP winners and long drive for Div 3 [massive drive by Anne Glance I am told].
Most enjoyable Golf Shop Day was held on 21st October. Thanks to Jason and his crew – some excellent drives [most of us couldn’t achieve in two shots what Geoff did with one] and Pat Pinniger’s Clayton’s [or Jason’s] hole in one proved a big hit in more ways than one!. Many thanks also to Andy for the bread rolls and choice of fillings – everyone coming in at once made this an easier option all round.
Our Own NSW Champ!
She’s pretty, petite and blonde but under that façade lies a dedicate, talented but very modest sports person. In between working in our bar young Kristina Hagberg is a bit of a daredevil who rides BMX bikes in her spare time.
Recently she had a severe fall fracturing her Sternum a few weeks before one of the biggest BMX competitions, she came back after the accident with little to no training in between to win this years NSW State titles!
Here is 2 minutes with Kristina.
Name: Kristina Hagberg
Age: 19
Sport: BMX racing
How did you get started in BMX? My brother started before me and I got bored of watching him.
How long have you been riding for? I have been riding for 4 years
High point: Representing Australia for the world titles was pretty high and winning State Titles this year!
Low point: Crashing
How many Wheat Bix can you eat? I can eat 5 BUT I can eat a huge bowl of fruity bix!
Hours spent training per week: A lot, 20+ hours rough estimate give or take.
Favourite place BMX has taken you? Melbourne I was able to ride 6 different tracks in a week!
Place you want to go with BMX? South Africa for the 2010 World Titles.
Number of injuries to date: Um... only one touch wood, but the bruises and grazes are countless not to mention concussions.
Ultimate Goal: Podium finish at World Titles
Are more girls getting involved in BMX now? Yes and no. At my age the competition is pretty healthy at our bigger competitions but I’m finding a lot of the younger girls are getting into it now too.
Are you sponsored? No, not yet
How important is it to have a sponsor? It would help to get my name out there a bit more, and ultimately reaching my goal of a podium finish at the World Titles 2010 in South Africa.
We think she is amazing and truly driven in this sport. If you would like to help Kristina to win the World Titles please contact the office on 4332 3400.
COURSE REPORT
4th Hole
The turf will be renovated by the way of fertilizing and topdressing with sand. This will promote growth and the sand will level the playing surface. The local rule is still in place regarding free relief from seams of turf.
5th Hole Extension
At present, I am still receiving quotes for the bulk earthmoving. The ideal start time for this project is winter next year. This allows for TLGC staff to be involved in the project and be responsible for the installation of irrigation, final shaping, turfing etc. This will result in the overall cost of the project being reduced and that a quality result is achieved. Also, the course cutting, grooming and disease/insect pressure slows down over the winter period allowing the time for staff to participate.
6th Green Surrounds
The tasks that still need to be completed are:
1. Install drainage in the right hand side of the surround. This will remove excess water into the sump which then directs the water into the small pond in front of the green.
2. Turf remaining area.
3. Plant native shrubs and grasses behind green. I will also transplant Lamandra spp on the dune area located on the left side of the green to prevent erosion. The Lamandra spp will be removed from the left hand side of the 5th hole were the new fairway is to be located.
The weather conditions will be a determining factor as to when this entire area is open for play.
Tree Stumps
The stumps that are behind the 13th green and right hand side of the 7th will be removed when staff constraints and budget allows. As stated previously, these areas will be re-planted.
Horticulture/Landscaping
Over the next 6 months our planting policy will be replacing dead and/or removed trees. Also we will be planting next to existing trees, so as to ensure that a particular area is always protected. A good example of this is the left hand side of the 1st fairway to protect the players on the 2nd green.
Greens renovation
The greens renovation was washed out for a second time in a row this year. The greens were Verti-drained 1 day later with 12mm solid tynes then rolled. A premium greens renovation fertilizer was then added to promote growth and to elevate the nutrient deficiencies that were flagged with the soil nutrient analysis test that was carried out prior to renovation. A calcium based product will also be added to adjust the % Sodium Base Saturation. This is due to the re-claimed water being high in salinity. The greens will then be dusted with sand and rubbed into the canopy to smooth the surface.

Course Superintendent

Tips From The Pros
Confidence is everything when it comes to putting. Practice putting from 6ft to 10ft before you go out onto the course means you’ll see the ball miss the hole more often than you’ll see it disappear into the hole. For a onfidence boost, try this before your next round of golf… Start by choosing a 15m putt and putt 20 balls to it trying to make each one at lagging pace. Then, putt 5 balls from 1ft from a hole, 5 balls from 2ft, 5 balls from 3ft and 5 balls from 4ft. By warming up like this you’ll get your confidence over the long ones with the correct mind-set and you’ll see every putt drop into the hole on the shorter ones. Good luck with it!
Still struggling??? See our AAA rated PGA Members Jason Hart or Peter Cliff for a putting lesson.
Joke of the month
A man and his friend meet at the club house and decide to play a round of golf together. The man has a little dog with him and on the first green, when the man holes out a 20 foot putt, the little dog starts to yap and stands up on its hind legs.
The friend is quite amazed at this clever trick and says, "That dog is really talented! What does he do if you miss a putt?
“Somersaults," says the man.
"Somersaults?!" says the friend, "That's incredible. How many does he do?"
"Hmmm," says the man. "That depends on how hard I kick his furry behind."

Two Share 07 Pro Am Crown
Anthony Summers and David L. Partridge shot 3-under-par 68s to split the winner's cheque at the Central Coast
Express Advocate & Coca-Cola $10,000 Pro Am, held Friday at Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club.
Vicki Tutt was the best-placed female competitor with a 2-over-par 73. Martin Dive, Greg Green and Edward Stedman shared
third-place with 1-under-par 70s.
Open Amateur Stunner
TLGC member Stewart Creswick produced a stunning finish to overtake some of the state's best golfers and win the Tuggerah
Lakes Golf Club Open Amateur individual stroke event held Saturday, 8 September, 2007.
In a spectacular inward nine, Stewart eagled the par 5 15th, then after a solid par on the 16th carded consecutive birdies
on the 17th & 18th holes to post 1-under 69 and claim the coveted title from 2006 TLGC Junior Champion Dimi Papadatos
who finished on 72, with Danny An of Strathfield Golf Club one stroke further back.
Stewart's outward nine had plenty of highlights as well, among them a hole-in-one at the temporary 6th hole when his
approach to the 165-metre par 3 was never in doubt.
Long-time TLGC member Ron Ayton also finished well taking out the overall nett title with 71.
Woodward & Wehrle Triumph
Six-time club champion Brett Woodward (+1) and fellow A Grader Rodney Wehrle (4) proved too strong a combination against a top
field in this year's Foursomes Championship, held Sunday 26 August, 2007 at Tuggerah Lakes.
Woodward and Wehrle carded 4-under-par 138 to pocket the A Grade winner's cheque and trophy with Ron Ayton and Greg Nicholas
teaming well together for second. A Grade nett winners were the team of Andrew Arkins and Jason Henry, with Craig Chilvers
and Jack Danswan second.
David Allomes and Jamie Armstrong won B Grade, with Michael Duggan and Anthony Duggan winning the nett trophy. Francis Gore
and Hilton Cope claimed the C Grade scratch trophy, with Garry Walsh and Peter Costello (no, not that P Costello) taking
out the C Grade nett title.
Top Gun Winner
Sean Cameron overcame a top-class field of TLGC members to claim this year's Top Gun Shootout, held Sunday 4 February, 2007.
Sean, who plays off an 11 handicap, showed nerves of steel as his opponents, including defending champion and two-time
winner Ron Ayton, fell while his game went from strength to strength. Sean stormed home with birdies on 15 & 16,
and a par on 17.
Jamie Power said at the start of the shootout that he would be walking up the 18th, finished second.
